Empowering Farmers and Sustaining Eco-Biodiversity
Empowering Farmers and Sustaining Eco-Biodiversity
ASGAA is a legally entitled body committed to protecting indigenous farmers and traders while collaborating with premier institutions to provide essential facilities. The naturally infected agarwood regions of upper Assam, with their unique eco-biodiversity, serve as the heart of Sanchi cultivation. Farmers in this region recognize the lucrative and stable opportunities offered by cultivating agarwood, especially the naturally infected Aquilaria malaccensis, whose "magical" formation process underpins a green economic stewardship.
Experience:
Our farmers possess extensive knowledge of nursery management and plantation techniques, producing world-class agarwood chips and oil for the international market.
Quality:
Assam’s naturally infected agarwood zone ensures organic, premium-quality products unmatched globally.
Certified:
In response to unsustainable logging, agarwood species like Aquilaria malaccensis and Aquilaria agallacha are listed under CITES as critically endangered, emphasizing the importance of sustainable cultivation practices.
Self-Sufficient:
Our farmers prioritize eco-friendly practices, planting and harvesting agarwood sustainably to preserve the region's rich biodiversity for future generations.
Through these efforts, ASGAA aims to promote economic prosperity while safeguarding the environment at both micro and macro levels.
ASGAA has launched "Mission Green Village" in Assam and the northeastern states to promote the widespread plantation of Sanchi (agarwood) trees. This initiative aims to improve rural economic conditions, safeguard the eco-biodiversity of Assam, and encourage sustainable cultivation in private and vacant lands.

With over 30 years of expertise, the Sanchi Group has become synonymous with trust, transparency, and quality in the agarwood sector. The “Our Sanchi Home” project promotes plantation, harvesting, oil distillation, and processing agarwood products at the local level to uplift rural households and support sustainable economic growth.
ASGAA invites agarwood farmers, individuals, and organizations to join its mission by becoming members. Membership offers opportunities to contribute directly to the planning and implementation of programs. ASGAA offers two membership types:
Executive Members: Includes farmers, full-time volunteers, and donors.
General Membership: Open to all interested individuals and groups.
Seed Collection: High-quality local seeds are germinated in sand-soil beds.
Germination: Seeds germinate within 10-15 days and are transferred to polybags after 30-50 days.
Plantation: Seedlings, once 30-35 cm tall, are transplanted to the main field. The ideal planting season is April to June.
Historically, agarwood forests were exploited for trade, leading to near extinction. Farmers now cultivate agarwood on private and homestead lands, fulfilling global demand sustainably.
The larvae of Zeuzera conferta play a significant role in high-quality agarwood formation by boring tunnels in the tree trunk, allowing fungal infection to create valuable oleoresins over time. This natural infection process enhances the quality and market value of agarwood products.
In upper Assam, agarwood cultivation in home gardens is common and contributes significantly to the rural economy. Farmers benefit economically from naturally infected trees, particularly in areas like Sibsagar district.
